60 year old stabbed in the chest during attempted robbery

A 60 year old man has been stabbed in the chest during an attempted robbery in Aintree.

It happened on Saturday 8 September.

Police were called to reports that the victim was approached by four men near to the canal bridge on Wango Lane.

They attempted to rob him before stabbing him in the chest.

He was taken to hospital where his treatments are described as non-life threatening.

Police are asking for the public's help to trace the four offenders, described as about 18 years old, with local accents, and wearing dark clothing.

I want to make it absolutely clear that Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of knives as weapons on our streets, and the force is determined to eradicate knife crime to prevent incident such as this causing further harm in our communities.

I appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact police so we can find those responsible and bring those responsible to justice
