The long-awaited Manchester Airport bypass will open on Monday - but not in time for the morning and evening rush hours.
After decades in the planning and months of delays, transport chiefs have now announced that the £290m road will finally open to traffic on Monday at 9pm.
Workmen are to begin putting the finishing touches to the road, which stretches from Hazel Grove in the east to Manchester Airport in the west, overnight on Sunday.
But bosses say the size of the road means this is a 'complex procedure', so the bypass won't open to traffic until Monday night.
It's led to fears there could be 'traffic chaos' during Monday's rush hours, with drivers mistakenly believing the bypass is open.
