This shocking picture shows a pensioner who suffers from Alzheimer's in hospital after a scrambler yob smashed into her wheelchair.

An off-road motorbike collided with the 87-year-old woman near the Oval sports ground in Bebington, Wirral, at around 2.50pm on Saturday [October 20].

When the emergency services arrived they found they found the pensioner, whose first name is Beryl, trapped under her own wheelchair.

She was taken to Arrowe Park hospital by ambulance.

A photograph of Beryl in hospital was posted on social media with the message:

This is Beryl. She should have been home tonight watching Strictly.

Instead she in Arrow (sic) Park hospital traumatised and in a lot of pain because some kids thought it was ok to raz around offroad in a public space.

A friend of the family said Beryl, who was out with her daughter at the time of the incident, suffered three broken ribs and bruises to her body.

In a statement, Beryl's family said:

We are pleased that so many well wishers have offered support to us during this stressful period. We would like to thank the police and hospital staff for their efforts.

The family friend said Beryl was left "shocked and traumatised" after the incident. She is recovering in hospital.

In the moments before the crash the scrambler bike is thought to have been spotted on Town Lane, before entering Townfield Land and heading in the direction of Oaklands Drive.

The rider and pillion passenger left a black scrambler bike at the scene following the collision.

One of the males was described as being around 14 years old and wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a top.

Officers are making enquiries to locate both riders of the motorcycle.

Inspector Mark Keenan, from Merseyside Police, said:

If you saw the vehicle in the area shortly before this incident, or witnessed the incident itself then please come forward.

This was a particularly callous incident considering a frail 87-year-old woman was injured.

We would also appeal to anyone who may have dashcam footage or CCTV footage of any part of this incident, before, during and after to get in touch.
