The music world has been paying tribute to Pete Shelley, frontman of punk pioneers Buzzcocks, who has died of a suspected heart attack, aged 63.

Born in Leigh, Shelley co-founded the band in Bolton and wrote the 1978 classic Ever Fallen In Love.

He's also credited with bringing the Sex Pistols to Manchester for a legendary gig which inspired members of the audience to form bands including The Fall, Joy Division and The Smiths.
