Fire service named North West's most LGBT-inclusive employer

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has been named the most LGBT-inclusive employer in the North West, and third in the entire country.

The equality charity Stonewall recognises the service's "commitment to championing LGBT equality" in publishing its annual top 100 employers list. It says the organisations it recognises "play a crucial role in changing society" for the better.

Cheshire's Chief Fire Officer, Mark Cashin, says he and his staff are "passionate" about inclusion.

Cheshire Fire Service is also one of the most LGBT-inclusive employers nationwide

As an emergency service working hard to safeguard the public, ensuring we are LGBT inclusive is extremely important; we need to make sure that our services are fully accessible to LGBT communities, and that LGBT people choose to work or volunteer with us.

– Mark Cashin, Cheshire Fire and Rescue

Six other North West employers feature in Stonewall's list: Cheshire Police, University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Riverside, Lancashire Police and Bury Council.
