Man who aimed loaded gun at police officer is jailed

A man who held a police officer at gunpoint has been jailed for six years.

Michael Scott pointed the sawn-off shotgun at an officer in Partington, Trafford, last June.

He fled while discarding evidence including the weapon and some clothing.

Scott was arrested after the police helicopter traced him through the neighbourhood.

He was convicted at Minshull Street Crown Court of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession with intent to cause fear of violence.

Greater Manchester Police said the incident was a "stark reminder of the dangers" officers face.

Thankfully no-one was injured at the hands of Scott but the damage he could have easily caused with a fully loaded weapon doesn't bear thinking about.
