Two men have been seriously injured after a stolen car was deliberately driven into group of men who were then attacked in Eccles.
Emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, near the junction with Barton Road, at around 2.45am on Saturday morning following reports of a hit and run.
Police say four men were pushing a Land Rover Freelander along the road in Eccles when a stolen Vauxhall Vectra deliberately drove into them.
Five men - one of whom was carrying a weapon - got out of the Vectra before assaulting one of the men pushing the Freelander.
The offenders then set the stolen car on fire and flee the scene.
Liverpool Road, between Stadium Way and Boysnope Wharf, was closed in both directions until 8.30am when the eastbound carriageway opened.
It remains closed westbound while investigation work continues at the scene.
A GMP spokesperson have described the men's injuries as 'life changing'.
They added: "Police were called to Liverpool Road, close to the junction with Barton Road, at around 2:45am to reports of a fail to stop collision.
"Two men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
