World Book Day: Favourite authors meet children in Manchester

Six of the UK’s best-loved children’s authors and illustrators will bring books to life for 700 Manchester school children under the wings of Concorde at Runway Visitor Park later. For the first time, World Book Day 2019 is bringing its Share a Story Live tour to four communities across the UK including Manchester. Share a Story Live is being led by Read Manchester, a campaign from Manchester City Council and the National Literacy Trust to promote reading and boost literacy throughout the city.

11 primary schools have been chosen to attend the special event as a reward for their commitment to reading for pleasure and in support of the Read Manchester campaign:

  • St Augustine’s CE (Harpurhey);
  • The Willows (Woodhouse Park);
  • Haveley Hey Community School (Sharston);
  • Crossacres (Sharston);
  • Briscoe Lane (Miles Platting & Newton Heath);
  • St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School (Baguley);
  • Unity (Cheetham);
  • Bowker Vale Primary School (Higher Blackley);
  • St Luke’s CE (Ardwick);
  • St Dunstan’s (Moston) and
  • William Hulme Grammar School (Whalley Range)

Among the authors attending is Cressida Cowell the creator of the series of books How To Train Your Dragon which has spawned three animated movies.
