A cat has had to be put to sleep after suffering "horrendous" injuries after being shot with a rifle.
Duchy injured outside his own garden in Heswall, Merseyside.
He was rushed to a specialist vet, but Duchy's injuries were so severe that he had to be put to sleep.
Duchy's owners had him for five years and say they're devastated to lose him.
Mrs Edmondson said "I can’t tell you how much pleasure he brought me. He was gorgeous and loved to follow me around the house but would also enjoy going in the garden and exploring nearby."
The RSPCA is investigating and urging anyone with information to contact them.
