Police are investigating after a schoolgirl was sexually assaulted at a bus stop.

The victim, who is under 16, was on Market Place in Middleton, Rochdale, when the man, who appeared drunk, approached her.

He made 'lewd remarks' before sexually assaulting her at around 6.30pm on Monday, March 25.

The girl left the bus stop and told her family. Police were then called.

“This girl has been subjected to a terrifying ordeal and we’re determined to find the man responsible.

“Were you in the area at time and saw something that looked suspicious?

“We believe the person responsible was intoxicated at the time of the offence and therefore may have been drinking in pubs around Middleton.

“We would urge anyone who recognises the description, or has any information, to contact police immediately.”

The man, who was of 'chubby build', has 'some stubble', was white, around 50, with short grey hair.

His hair was thin on top and 'a bit spiky', GMP said.

The man wore a white t-shirt with a horse-type logo on the left breast and denim jeans during the attack.

They are keen to speak to anyone who was drinking in pubs around Middleton at the time, as they may have seen the man before the assault.
