Man charged over ammonia attack on police officers

Police were called to an address in Darwen on Tuesday morning.

A man's been charged after a number of police officers were sprayed with ammonia while attending an emergency call.

Seven people were taken to hospital after the incident.

One Sergeant suffered serious damage to his eyes, throat and respiratory system.

He is out of hospital and is due to have surgery to his left eye next week.

Paul Elliot, 46, of no fixed address, has been charged with grievous bodily harm, attempted Grievous bodily harm, and six counts of ‘throwing corrosive fluid on a person’ with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or disable.

He'll appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today.
