A murder investigation has been launched after a man was killed during a fight outside a pub in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to reports of a large fight and a stabbing outside the Royal Oak Hotel pub on Oldham Road, Failsworth at around 3 o'clock on Sunday morning.

Officers found three men, aged 22, 23 and 24, had been injured. The oldest had serious stab wounds and died a short time later in hospital.

It is thought those involved escaped before police arrived. No arrests have been made.

"This is an awful situation to be dealing with. We will be looking through CCTV to identify those involved and I would suggest they come forward to police before we come knocking."

Det Ch Supt Tony Creely, Greater Manchester Police

Detectives have closed a section of Oldham Road while investigations continue.

Police say anyone with concerns about the incident should speak to neighbourhood officers in the area.
