A 14 year old boy has been seriously injured after a stabbing in Liverpool.

Police say the teenager arrived in hospital "with injuries to his back consistent with a stab wound" on the evening of Easter Sunday.

It it understood that although the stabbing happened in the Toxteth area, officers have not yet established the specific location.

Police cordons have been set up in Seaport Street and Lodge Lane to allow for forensic investigations.

Forensic examinations are underway at two sites in Toxteth.

An investigation is underway and anyone with information is asked to contact police.

This is a shocking incident which has left a 14-year-old boy with serious injuries.

We believe this happened in a busy area in broad daylight and I would like to emphasise that knife crime will simply not be tolerated under any circumstances on the streets of Merseyside.
