A driver has thanked the quick-thinking stranger who came to his rescue after he left the handbrake off on his car.

Tony Ingram returned from a shopping trip on the Wirral to find a can of Carling wedged under his front wheel - preventing his car from rolling away.

A note left on the windscreen explained "Hand brake off rolled forward can of beer under front passenger wheel."

The 72-year-old posted on social media to try to find the unnamed good samaritan, joking "I am assuming it was a woman because I doubt a man would want to give away a free can!"

The hero of this tale noticed my car moving and brilliantly used a can of lager as a wedge under the front wheel thus stopping it from rolling forward.

I owe the person involved a big thanks and also a pint of lager.

– Tony Ingram

Tony added: "It would be great to able to say thanks in person. My car could have caused some damage so I am grateful to whoever it was."
