'I was so scared of my son I couldn't go in my own living room' - that's until they had relationship support

Rochdale Council has trained over 600 of its frontline staff, from housing officers to health visitors to be 'relationships champions'.

Staff wear special badges to encourage people to have a chat and find out about various courses to help them deal with conflict at home, when arguments become prolonged and unresolved.

Research shows that 1 in 5 couples are in relationships classed as 'distressed' and that can have an impact on their children's mental health and happiness.

Rochdale is leading the way with its 'Relationships Manifesto' with schools, children's centres, housing offices all taking part and helping to signpost training.
