Two people taken to hospital after stabbing near Tameside Hospital

Two people have been taken to hospital after a man was stabbed and a woman injured near Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne.

There is a road closure in place between Darton Road, which runs beside the hospital, and Arundel Street and Mellor Road.

Greater Manchester Police were called to the scene just before midday after reports a man had been stabbed.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the man and woman are not yet clear.

An air ambulance was called to the scene, but was not needed.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said:

We were called at 11.57am to Darnton Road to reports of a police incident.

We sent two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a senior clinician, and the air ambulance.

Two patients were taken to hospital.
