Four teenagers from Manchester who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been released.

Police were called around 4.15pm on Thursday, July 18, after reports of an incident at the junction of Freckleton Street and the A583 Kirkham Bypass.

Officers attended and a man, who can now be named as Andrew Dean, from Wesham, was found in the carriageway with head injuries. Sadly Mr Dean was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe Mr Dean, 46, had been driving a white Renault Master van westbound on the A583 when he was involved in an altercation with another motorist driving a metallic blue Nissan Micra car.

Both vehicles later stopped close to the junction with Freckleton Street and Mr Dean got out of the van to speak to the Nissan driver. It is believed the Nissan then collided with Mr Dean who suffered fatal injuries.

Around 4.45pm police stopped a blue Nissan Micra between junctions 6 and 5 of the M61.

Four people were arrested at the scene.

In relation to the on-going investigation into the fatal RTC at Kirkham the four people arrested on suspicion of murder have now been released. An 18-year-old man from Ashton under Lyne has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

An 18-year-old woman from Ashton-under-Lyne, a 17-year-girl from Stalybridge and a 16-year-old girl, from Audenshaw, have been released without charge.
