Section 60 order enforced in Kirkby enabling police to stop and search without suspicion

Merseyside Police have enforced a Section 60 order in the Kirkby area, until 2am Tuesday August 20.

A Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 allows a police officer to stop and search a person without suspicion.

The enforcement is in place in the the geographical area bounded by the M57/East Lancashire Road/Moorgate Road/Lees Road across to Dale Lane/Pingwood Lane to Hall Lane and across to junction Bank Lane (A506) and Prescot Road (B5192)/Prescot Road; Glovers Brow; across to Kirkby train station line to M57.

It follows a number of incidents in Kirkby over the past few weeks, including the murder of 21-year-old James Halewood.
