A six-foot Burmese python has been found abandoned in a plastic box in a Tesco car park in Lancashire.

A member of the public called the police after spotting the snake in Burnley. It was in a tub labelled "Brazilian Rainbow Boa £170".

The container was labelled Credit: RSPCA

The snake is now in the hands of the RSPCA, who believe it to be an abandoned pet.

Staff say that although this snake appears healthy, the cold temperatures it was left in could have caused it serious harm.

Sadly, reptiles often end up in our care after people realise they're not easy to care for, or perhaps when the novelty wears off.

There is never an excuse to abandon an animal like this as there are always other options available to you.

The charity is urging people to do their research before committing to an exotic pet.
