'Let's give him the send off he deserves': People urged to attend D-Day veteran's funeral

People are being urged to attend the funeral of a D-Day veteran who has died with few close relatives.

Earnest Townson, who served as a paratrooper, died on October 15 at the age of 99.

The Royal British Legion has asked people to turn up to his funeral in Blackburn, Lancashire, to give him the "send off he deserves".

Earnest Townson served as a Lance Sargeant with the 1st Border 8th Parachute Regiment.

The funeral is taking place from 3pm on October 25 from 3pm at Pleasington Crematorium on Tower Road in Blackburn.
