The weekend starts on a cold note. Overnight frost and fog will linger first thing on Saturday.
Dry and bright weather should develop and stay over Cumbria and Lancashire but cloud will invade from the southwest, bringing the threat of rain to Merseyside, Cheshire and parts of Greater Manchester.
If the rain edges into the High Peak it's here that hill snow is most likely for late afternoon into the evening.
Skies clear once again overnight into Sunday. After another frosty start a better dose of sunshine across the northwest. Cold but clear for many.
Rain threatens from the west by dusk, leading to a blustery and showery few days ahead.
