A special service has been held in Chorley attended by relatives of members of the Chorley Pals who served in the Battle of the Somme in World War One.

In Manchester Civic dignitaries including the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Abid Latif Chohan gathered at the Cenotaph in St. Peter's Square, together with members of the Armed Services.

And for the first time the Isle of Man was represented at the ceremony in Whitehall in London as MHK Howard Quayle attended on behalf of the Islands' government.
