Memorial benches unveiled for cancer survivors
A breast cancer survivor from Manchester has unveiled a memorial bench to herself as part of a fundraising campaign.
Sharon Quennell helped to launch 'Re-Write Cancer' which credits her survival to those tackling the disease. It's part of efforts to raise money to build a 150 million pound research centre at the Christie after the previous one was extensively damaged by fire in 2017.
The bench reads:
"Sharon Quennell loved sitting here... and still does thanks to advances in cancer research."
Sharon's is outside the town hall in Chadderton. The world-class facility is due to open in 2022, uniting Cancer Research UK, The Christie and The University of Manchester. The project will enable Manchester to lead the world in recruiting patients to clinical trials.
