Residents in Whaley Bridge are being invited to hear about the plans to restore Toddbrook Reservoir this evening.

The event, hosted by the Canal & River Trust charity, will take place at the Palace Hotel in Buxton. Directors for the Trust will explain plans for improvements to the Todd Brook inlet channel and temporary works to protect the spillway which was damaged at the beginning of August after exceptionally heavy rainfall.

The Canal & River Trust, which cares for 2,000 miles of waterways including Toddbrook Reservoir, is working closely with its contractor Kier to keep Toddbrook drained while the major long term reservoir restoration programme is delivered over the next few years.

Julie Sharman, chief operating officer with the Canal & River Trust, said:

With work due to start in January, the Trust is very keen to keep local residents updated with the latest information. We apologise that people are having to travel to Buxton for the briefing but finding a suitable venue with sufficient capacity has been a challenge in the week before Christmas.

“We have already met many local residents at four public open days in October and at the weekly surgery drop-in sessions but we look forward to updating a wider audience with the latest news on the 17th December.”
