Man killed after being knocked down by unmarked police car

A man has died after being knocked down by an unmarked police car in Warrington.

The pedestrian was killed in the collision with a BMW on Warrington Road, in Penketh, shortly before 7.30pm on Monday February 3.

Emergency services were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead a short time later. Road closures were put in place between Farnworth Road and Liverpool Road as forensic officers launched an investigation at the scene.

A cordon was put in place at a number of junctions near the scene of the crash, which happened close to the Sportsmans Arms pub.

In a statement, Cheshire Police confirmed that the pedestrian had died.

The force added the incident would be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The incident involving an unmarked police car and a pedestrian took place at 7.20pm on Monday 3 February on Warrington Road in Penketh.

The pedestrian – a man – died at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing at this time.

In line with normal procedure the incident has been referred to the Independent office for Police Conduct.

Pictures taken at the scene show how officers cordoned off the road near the pub and a Co-op store.

Multiple police cars could be seen parked around the area with forensic investigators working inside the cordon.
