Suspected World War Two 'item' found in Bolton garden

The bomb squad have been called to Bolton after a suspected Second World War item was found.

It was found earlier today in a back garden on Bradford Road, in Great Lever.

The device, believed to be a bomb, is reported to have been discovered by someone digging in the garden.

Greater Manchester Police have sealed off a section of the road between Green Lane and Bishops Road, near to Great Lever Park.

Nearby homes have been evacuated as a precaution.

Bomb disposal officers (EOD) are making their way to the garden to assess the item.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 12.05pm today, Monday, February 10, 2020, police were made aware of an item – possibly from World War Two – found in a garden on Bradford Road in Bolton.

"EOD are making their way to the scene to assess the item.

"A number of nearby addresses have been evacuated as a precaution and some road closures are in place in the local vicinity.

"Officers are advising the public to stay away from the area at this time."
