Detectives investigating the death of a man in Skelmersdale have arrested a second man.
The 30 year old, also from the town, has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Kristaps Muzikants, 30, who died on Saturday morning.
Police were contacted by the ambulance service shortly after 4.40am to the report Mr Muzikants was unconscious after being found with a stab wound at an address on Acregate.
He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
A subsequent post mortem examination has revealed the cause of his death to be a single stab wound to his chest.
Detectives are trying to piece together Mr Muzikants’ final movements and are asking anyone who knows anything about the incident to come forward.
"I am asking anyone who lives or was in the area to cast their minds back to between 12am and 4:30am on Friday night into Saturday morning. Did you see or hear anything? Do you know who was out and about around that street at those times? If so, we really need to speak to you as you could have vital information that could assist our investigation."
A 36-year-old man from Skelmersdale was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Officers have been granted extra time to question him.
Police say Kristaps’ family is being supported by specially trained officers.
