Council calls on government to rethink Mersey Gateway tolls for key workers during coronavirus crisis

Halton Borough Council says the government has turned down its request to remove tolls for key workers on the Mersey Gateway during the coronavirus crisis.

The authority says it has been advised that the government were “not minded” to remove tolls from Mersey Gateway “immediately,” but would “keep it under review” and make “the right decision at the right time

“We need the permission of Government to do this, so the consequence of the Government’s position is that the Council cannot remove the tolls.
