High-flying Burnley hit new heights as outdoor centre is reopened in Lancashire

Burnley FC stars Jack Cork, Chris Wood and Adam Legzdins, alongside the Mayor of Pendle Councillor David Whalley, officially reopened Burnley FC in the Community’s Whitehough Outdoor Centre in Barley.

The players met children from local primary schools Castercliff Primary Academy and Pendle Primary Academy who were enjoying activities at the Lancashire facility.

The Lake District designated World Heritage Site

The Lake District has been designated as a World Heritage Site.

UNESCO, the watchdog in charge of the register, made the decision at its annual meeting in Poland this afternoon.

It gives the area the same official status as the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China.

It's the third time the national park has tried to get the status.

Competition for amateur snappers

A competition has begun to find the best photographs of the Lake District in winter. The competition is part of campaign to drive tourism to the region. Entrants are being asked to submit the best snaps.

WATCH: Young shepherdess supporting Lake District World Heritage bid

A young shepherdess from Croglin near Carlisle has been nominated as an ambassador for the Lake District's bid for World Heritage status.

Twenty-four-year old Hannah Jackson is already one of 12 national ambassadors for the sheep association, because of her passion for encouraging young people into farming.
