A memorial garden will be opened at Hyde Police Station today to remember PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, who were killed in a gun and grenade attack in Hattersley.

Memorial garden for PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone

The families of two police officers shot dead in Greater Manchester came together to pay tribute to them at the opening of a garden in their memory.

PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes were answering what they thought was routine 999 call when they were murdered in September.

People from the Hyde community helped build the garden. Fiona's father said he hoped his daughter had not died in vain. Rachel Townsend reports.

A memorial garden has opened in memory of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes killed whilst on duty in Greater Manchester.

The father of PC Fiona Bone, spoke publicly for the first time since her death describing it as “a wonderful lasting tribute.”

Doves released in memory of Fiona and Nicola

Paul Bone thanked police for their help following the tragedy and said: “We are tremendously grateful for the support we have had from the community."

At a special service prayers were said and a minutes silence was observed before white doves were released.

Memorial paid for by public donations

PC's Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone were shot in Hattersley in September.
