Thousands of people have now signed the 'Justice for Jade' online petition calling for a change in the law.

The family of Jade Anderson, who was mauled by a pack of dogs, want tougher controls on certain breeds of dog.

The petition, which was set up by relative John Anderson, and will trigger a Commons debate if it reaches 100,000 signatures.

On the site John says he wants to save other families "suffering like we have."

He calls for tougher powers so police can prosecute the owners of dogs that attack people on private property.

Police say it is 'unlikely' that anyone will be prosecuted after the 14 year old was savaged at her friend's house near Wigan.

Superintendent Mark Kenny, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "Speculation in the media about the fact the investigation has already concluded and that there will be no prosecutions is both inaccurate and even more distressing to the family.

"I want to make it clear that we have made absolutely no decision on whether any prosecutions will be brought.

"It is extremely important for Jade's family that we conduct a thorough investigation into the facts and speak to everyone involved so we can build up an accurate picture of the events leading up to Jade's tragic death."
