The Pride of Britain Awards 2018

Four fantastic fundraisers have been shortlisted for our Pride of Granada award. The winner will go on to represent the North West in the Fundraiser category at the star-studded Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in London.

North West individuals to be honoured at Pride of Britain Awards

David Beckham and The Prince of Wales will lead the stars who will be honouring amazing individuals at the Pride of Britain Awards. Among those to be celebrated for their outstanding bravery include a Cheshire teenager who saved his father's life at sea, and a young girl from Rochdale who has raised thousands from her hospital bed.

The expert divers who risked their lives to rescue 12 Thai footballers who had become trapped in a flooded are also to be honoured at the ceremony.

Carol Vorderman is hosting the evening of special stories. She said:

"Pride of Britain is a very important part of my life. I'm thrilled that it's become a staple part of British culture.

"I never fail to be humbled by those who have often turned a tragedy into something pretty magnificent."

The winners include Child Of Courage Ella Chadwick, 11, from Rochdale, who has raised £3,000 for the hospital where she has been treated for nephrotic syndrome, which has led to her undergoing 40 operations. She has made hundreds of get well cards for other sick children.

Joe Rowlands, 14, from Nantwich in Cheshire, has been named as the Teenager Of Courage award winner after he dove into freezing seas to drag his unconscious father to safety after they capsized on a kayaking trip.

Penny Dean from Stockport will find out if she is crowned Fundraiser of the Year after winning the ITV regional award.

Over 25 years Penny has raised over £1.5 million to get people with restricted growth into sport. The Dwarf Sports Association, which she helped set up, holds national games each year to give people like her a level playing field.

Penny will attend the star studded national awards later this month in London. Only then will we find out if she's to be crowned the National Fundraiser of the Year.

The Prince Of Wales, Beckham and Simon Cowell are among the celebrities recognising the courage and dedication of award winners. Ellie Goulding, Michael Sheen, Amanda Holden, the cast of Strictly Come Dancing and members of the England football will be at the ceremony on Monday evening.

Pride Of Britain: Teenager Aidan Jackson explains all the ways he's raised money for charity

We meet another of our finalists hoping to receive the title of North West Fundraiser of the Year in the Pride of Britain Awards.

Aidan Jackson from Widnes has Aspergers, ADHD and walks on his toes because of a medical condition but he hasn't let any of that stop him and since the age of 12 he's been raising thousands of pounds for charity.

He has been speaking to our correspondent Andy Bonner.

Pride of Britain: Meet Penny Dean, who's been changing lives through sport for more than 25 years

We meet another of our finalists hoping to receive the title of North West Fundraiser of the Year in the Pride of Britain Awards.

Today it's Penny Dean from Stockport who, along with her husband Arthur, set up the Dwarf Sports Association 25 years ago.

Since then she has raised a phenomenal amount of money to help get people with restricted growth into sport. She's been talking to our correspondent Andy Bonner.

We meet another of the inspiring people shortlisted for North West Fundraiser of the Year at the Pride of Britain Awards.

Dawn Fidler founded a charity in the name of her son who was diagnosed with a brain stem tumour at the age of three.

Now the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, nicknamed Super Josh after his love of superheroes, has raised over £700,000 to help other families going through the same thing.

And he's done it all in the guise of one of his favourite film characters.
