'Hancock Close' in Hindley Green has been named after local soldier, Kingsman Jamie Hancock, who was killed in Iraq 7 years ago.
Friends, family and former colleagues from The 2nd Battalion the Duke of Lancaster's regiment were there as a stone plaque was unveiled on the brand new road.
A fallen soldier from Wigan will have a road named in his honour today.
Kingsman Jamie Hancock died in Iraq in 2006, aged just 19.
"Hancock Close" will carry a memorial stone, describing him as a "lion of England".
Jamie's brother, Sergeant Joe Hancock, said: "The opening of Hancock Close symbolises support and recognition to our brave service men and women, who dedicate their lives in support of our great nation and way of life."
