An announcement is due later on which company will run the West Coast mainline. The decision to award the franchise to FirstGroup was scrapped over "technical flaws" in the bidding process. The transport secretary will appear before MP's to explain the costly u-turn.
Services suspended after station death.
Services from Manchester Picadilly to Manchester Airport have been suspended after a man was was hit by a train at East Didsbury station.
The man who is thought to be in his fifties, was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary but was declared dead on arrival.
Delays of up to 60 minutes
Trains are currently being diverted away from East Didsbury station with Northern Rail services going via Stockport and Wilmslow. Delays are currently running at up to 60 minutes and are expected to continue.
