Police and public urged to stand 'shoulder-to-shoulder' for PCs' funerals

Greater Manchester Police Federation is calling for police officers and the public to stand 'shoulder-to-shoulder' when PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes are laid to rest.

The Federation wants officers from across the country and people from Greater Manchester to line Deansgate in the city as their cortèges are taken to Manchester Cathedral.

"We want to make these two funerals events that will show the families that every police officer in the country is there with them."To do that we would encourage any colleague who is available to come to Manchester and line the route of each funeral procession next Wednesday and Thursday. The funeral cortège will pass along Deansgate in the city centre on the final part of the journey.

"This show of support is by no means limited to the police family.

"We would ask the people of Greater Manchester to come into their city next week to stand shoulder to shoulder with their police officers to pay their respects to two brave officers who made the ultimate sacrifice whilst policing our communities."

– Ian Hanson, chairman Greater Manchester Police Federation

The funeral of PC Nicola Hughes will take place on Wednesday October 3 at 1pm. The funeral of PC Fiona Bone will take place the following day Thursday October 4 at 10am.
