“This was a challenging scene to deal with for all the emergency services, all who stepped up to the bar to professionally deal with the difficult issues confronting them.

"All the next of kin have been informed, and over the coming days we will be working to establish precisely what led to this tragic event.

"Although only one vehicle is believed to have been involved at this time, it is important we establish clearly that this was the case.

"If anyone was driving on that road around the time of the collision, I’d compel them to get in touch with us at headquarters and speak to the investigation team. We are particularly interested in the movements of the Clio, which was travelling from the Eairy end towards the Braaid.

"We can be contacted on 631212”
