Man released after sailor death arrest

A man arrested on suspicion of the murder of the Liverpool sailor Anthony Cavanagh has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The 33-year-old man was arrested at a house in Blundellsands last night and was interviewed by detectives.

Anthony Cavanagh, 22, was on a night out with friends while on shore leave from HMS Cardiff in September 2005, when he was punched as he left a pub in Concert Square.

He died on 5 October 2005 after being in a coma for 11 days at Walton Neurological Centre.
