A university lecturer describes hate incident on Manchester Metrolink

A University Lecturer from Texas says he was shocked to be subjected to racial abuse on the tram this morning.

Juan Jasso, who served for 7 years in the American military said other passengers were visibly upset after the reaction he got, when he'd asked a group of men to stop swearing.

A number of passengers have come forward to thank him.

Three people aged 20, 18 and 16 have been arrested in connection with a hate crime incident on the tram.

Chief Inspector Gareth Parkin of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “I would like to thank the public for their help and support in this investigation, which has led to the swift arrest of these three people.

“All hate incidents are treated with the upmost severity and this behaviour will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester.
