Man dies after Crumpsall assault

A man has died after an assault in Crumpsall.

Shortly before 7.10am today, Friday 1 July 2016, police were called to reports of an assault at a property in the Charminster Drive area of Crumpsall.

Officers attended and found a man in his 50s with serious injuries.

He was immediately rushed to hospital, but sadly died of his injuries a short time later.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Jones, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said:

Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time and our specially trained officers will continue to provide support to them.

We understand local residents will be quite shocked by this incident but I would like to assure them that a full investigation has been launched and we currently have one man in custody.

Residents may notice an increase in police presence as we carry out enquiries today and if anybody has any information which could assist with the investigation then I would urge you to call police.
