The organisers had earlier issued a statement to say that festival would go ahead despite the problems on Saturday.

“Steps have been taken to ensure that Sunday’s Hope & Glory festival, featuring headliners Hacienda Classical along with Ocean Colour Scene, Tom Chaplin and many more, will deliver another great day of entertainment.

“We look forward to welcoming back all our weekend ticket holders, along with those in possession of Sunday tickets, for another fantastic day of live music in the heart of Liverpool.”

Tonight Ocean Colour Scene, Hacienda Classical and The Lightning Seeds had all been due to perform.

Tim Booth, lead singer of Manchester's James and Charlotte Church both expressed their frustration at the event last night.

So far the organisers have declined to offer an official statement on the cancellation.
