Battle of the Atlantic memorial planned to honour WWII's brave seafarers

A national memorial dedicated to the estimated one hundred thousand people who died during the Battle of the Atlantic in World War Two, is due to be built in Liverpool.

The city was the strategic headquarters during the campaign which lasted from 1939 to 1945.

The monument will cost two and a half million pounds - donations from the public will be needed to build it.
