Murder investigation launched after man, 28, dies following 'brutal' assault

Officers are keeping a police presence on Heysham Avenue.

A murder investigation's been launched after a 28-year-old man died just hours after being victim of a 'brutal' assault.

Police were called on Saturday night after the victim fell ill at a house on Heysham Avenue in Withington, Manchester.

He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Detectives say the man was assaulted earlier that day and they are working to establish exactly where the attack happened.

Flowers left at the scene in a tribute to the 28 year old.

The investigation is in its very early stages but from enquiries so far we believe this man was subjected to a brutal attack at some point on Saturday.

The family is understandably beside themselves and we are doing everything we can to find out exactly what happened to him and those who are responsible for his death.

– Detective Inspector Wes Knights, from GMP’s Major Incident Team

Officers are keeping a police presence on Heysham Avenue and would urge anyone who knows anything to contact them "so we can give this man’s family the answers they deserve.”
