Police are now appealing for witnesses to the collision.

My thoughts are with the man’s family at this devastating time.

We have a man in custody but our investigation has really only just begun so I am hoping that anyone who witnessed the incident will come and tell us what they saw.

We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage which catches the incident or the white Range Rover Sport prior to the collision.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police 0161 856 4741 alternatively call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
