A new £25 million skills academy opens at BAE Systems in Barrow later. The Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson will perform the opening.

The academy will feature scale models of submarines for engineering students to learn their trade on. It is hoped the new facility will develop the skills needed to deliver craft to the Royal Navy.

BAE recruited 250 apprentices in 2018 and plans to increase that number next year.
