34 year old mother dies and 13 year old girl suffers serious injuries in Wigan car crash

A mother has died following a crash involving three cars in Wigan.

Two girls, aged 13 and 4, were also injured in the collision which happened on Bickershaw Lane in Wigan at around 5.30pm on Saturday.

Police were called to reports that three cars had collided – a black Volkswagen Polo, a silver Mercedes and a green Volkswagen Amarok. Emergency services attended but the 34-year-old woman driving the Polo, later died at hospital.

A 13-year-old girl was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and a 29-year-old man and a four-year-old girl were taken to hospital for less serious injuries.

“Sadly yesterday evening a mother lost her life, and a little girl has received serious injuries and remains in hospital. This is a senseless incident that has resulted in tragedy."

The driver and occupants of the Amarok failed to stop at the scene and the car was later found abandoned on Bolton House Road in Wigan.

“The driver and the occupants of the green Amarok know very well that they have questions to answer about their behaviour, they left the scene without thought for the people in the cars around them, they owe it to the victim’s family now to come forward and talk to police."

The occupants of the Mercedes, a 21-year-old man and two 20-year-old-men, were arrested on causing death by dangerous driving. They are all currently receiving treatment for injuries in hospital.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward and anyone who may have seen the Amarok which made off from the scene.

“Three people remain in custody today for questioning. We hope in the coming days we can piece together what has happened in order to give the family of the victim the answers they deserve.”
