A man has been arrested after a security guard was stabbed in a supermarket in Merseyside.
Emergency services were called to Asda in Strand Road, Bootle, at about 6.50pm on Saturday to reports of an altercation involving a suspected shoplifter.
The security guard sustained superficial stab wounds to his leg and arm and was treated at the scene by the ambulance service before he was taken to hospital.
Shortly after, officers detained a 25-year-old man in nearby Gemini Road.
He has been taken to hospital for assessment and will be later moved to a police station for questioning on suspicion of attempted theft and assault, said Merseyside Police.
CCTV, forensic and witness inquiries are under way, police added.
