A police horse has died and his rider has been injured in what police say was a tragic accident in Blackpool.

The horse, who was called Morecambe, collided with a metal pole on Seasiders Way and died at the scene.

Morecambe’s rider has been taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital with some injuries.

Chief Inspector Sue Bushell said the team were all "completely devastated".

Our thoughts remain with our injured colleague at this extremely difficult time.
