Former Eastenders star feared murdered

A headless torso feared to be ex-EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie has been dragged from the Regent's Canal. Murder detectives have arrested a 35-year-old man after the limbless body was discovered in the water in east London yesterday, police said.

Relatives and co-stars of Miss McCluskie, 29, were said by a source to be "fearing the worst" as Scotland Yard carried out forensic tests on the remains.

Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following the discovery of the body close to the Broadway Market stretch of the canal in Hackney yesterday afternoon.They have yet to carry out formal identfication of the victim. They were initially contacted by a member of the public who had noticed something suspicious floating in the water. The torso was recovered by divers from the Met's Marine Support Unit (MSU) who are carrying out further searches.
