Rail fiasco? Put me in charge of trains, says Boris.

Boris Johnson says the rail franchise fiasco strengthens his case for taking charge of London's commuter services.

This morning the government dramatically cancelled the controversial West Coast franchise award, ahead of legal action from Sir Richard Branson.

The Transport Secretary said today he was very angry about "unacceptable mistakes" made by his department. Three civil servants have since been suspended.

The scrapping of the competition will leave taxpayers with a 40 million pound bill. And three other franchise bids involving London services have been halted.
