The score was love-love at Wimbledon today as a pair of tennis fans got engaged on Murray Mound. 28-year-old Richard Scott proposed to his girlfriend Veri Croce on the hill at the All England Club.

The American couple were cheered by the crowd as their special moment was shown on the giant TV screen. They have been together for five years and flew to the UK especially for their first visit to Wimbledon. They met while working at a healthcare technology company.

I'm originally from Oxford but I moved to California in 1997, which was lucky because otherwise I'd never have met Veri. We've been together for five years so I thought it was about time to pop the question. It's a dream to come here to Wimbledon and it seemed a good time to do it. I'm so happy she said yes, I'm the luckiest guy in the world.

Veri Croce was shaking after the proposal and said:

I'm in shock, I had no idea at all he was going to propose. The ring is gorgeous, I can't believe it.
